Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to achieve final game in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a large pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest enthusiasts in the world. While betting on internet poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He regularly plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus generally buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I believe Hansen is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is penniless, he has no reason to settle at the table with the min buy-in.
Playing for the min takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the best players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total dollar value. I think television can alter our perception of the real world sometimes. The best players in the world might be players you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be seen betting on web poker on Full Tilt. He usually participates in big stakes omaha high and hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in money rounds?
