Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most difficult but well-loved poker games. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for play from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant variation, has expanded in popularity so rapidly.
Omaha hi/lo begins exactly like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to every player. A round of betting follows where gamblers can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are dealt out, this is referred to as the flop. One more round of wagering happens. Once all the gamblers have in turn called or dropped out, a further card is revealed on the turn. a further round of betting happens at which point the river card is flipped. The players will have to put together the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is where some players get flustered. Contrasted to Holdem, where the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player must use exactly 3 cards on the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It’s the best hand out of everyone’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the same notion in almost every poker game.
A low hand is more complicated, but really opens up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that might be put together, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no low hand presented, the high hand wins the entire pot.
While it seems difficult at the start, after a few hands you will be able to pick up on the basic nuances of the game simply enough. Seeing as you have players wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are in play, Omaha Hi-Lo offers an overwhelming collection of wagering choices and seeing that you have many individuals shooting for the high hand, as well as several shooting for the low. If you prefer a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it is worth your time to participate in Omaha/8.
