Internet Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the last poker table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a big pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest enthusiasts around the world. While gambling on web poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus more often than not buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I know Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is penniless, he has little or no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy in.

Playing for the min takes a majority of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be 1 of the best players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full dollar value. I think television can alter our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest poker players in the world might just be players you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen betting on web poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in money rounds?
