NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?


Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player on the globe by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental comments from others annihilate his dream of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.

Phil began playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is quite humble about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
