Newcomer Strategy for Pai Gow Poker

Pai Gow Poker is a modern game with ancient origins. Built on the old Chinese domino game and the current American variation of poker, Pai Gow poker marries the east with the western in a great game for starting players.

Pai Gow is a poker game that pits the gambler vs. the casino, unlike almost all other poker games that players compete against other gamblers. By betting against the dealer, starting players don’t have to fret about other, more skillful people taking their cash.

One more Pai Gow edge is the fairly slow game play, newcomers will be able to take their time and plan without having to make frenzied decisions.

It is also much simpler to gamble on for a long time with only a small bit of cash since, to not win, both of your hands needs to be lower than each of the houses hands.

Pai Gow uses 53 cards; the familiar 52-card standard deck and one joker. The gambler is given seven cards faces showing and the croupier gets seven cards face down.

A five card hand and a 2 card hand need to be made from the seven cards, the 5 card hand has to be stronger than the 2 card hand. To succeed, a player is required to have both of his hand totals to be higher than the dealer’s.
