Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player on the globe by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup everything he possibly could about poker. He would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the adverse comments from others annihilate his goal of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.
He started playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and always strives to get better.
Although Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
