Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the adverse comments from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the best poker players in the world.
He started competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. He admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
