No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?


Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the planet by many of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the negative comments from other people kill his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an undying passion for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is very humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Even though Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
